GENERAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES
Camp exists for the
benefit of the camper. All staff members must realize that working at a camp is
a job that entails wholehearted service. The standard of behavior, indeed the
whole atmosphere of the camp, depends on the staff. Example is the best teacher
so all staff members must be constantly alert that their behavior, speech,
appearance, quarters, and care of equipment are worthy of being copied. Staff
must be enthusiastically involved in all aspects of the camp program. It is also
important that the staff cooperate with people in authority and graciously
accept constructive criticism and offers of assistance.
THAT’S NOT MY JOB… OR IS IT?
Each member of the camp
staff team has a position - some specific function at the camp. The job
responsibilities for daily activities are quite obvious; looking after campers,
safety and controls in the pool area, and provision of meals. However, each area
of the camp at one time or another will need extra help throughout the session
and, as a staff member, no matter which position you hold, you may be asked by a
Director or other co-worker to lend a hand at some point. Never assume, that
because you have a specific job you are above helping in any other area of the
camp when necessary, whether that entails keeping the camp clean or helping with
the evening activity. If the program is to be flexible, so must we.
